MALACCA: An uncertain, divisive and disunited opposition should be the main cause for concern if the people were considering a replacement for Barisan Nasional in the coming general elections.

“If the opposition were stable and efficient, I myself would not be worried. I would be relieved,” said Umno vice president Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Hussein after officiating the Masjid Tanah Umno divisional meeting here today.

Hishammuddin, also the Defence Minister, said to date, the opposition have yet to lay down its plans for the future of the country but instead, aggressively preaching politics of hate through their ceramahs (talks).

“This makes me worried. That the people may be swayed to vote for a power-crazed opposition that have only been active in slandering the government and spreading hatred,” said Hishammuddin.

He was speaking before an audience of about 1,000 Umno members.

Hishammuddin then urged the Masjid Tanah Umno members to begin working aggressively to ensure voters, in particular youth who will be first time voters, to not be swayed by the political ploys of the opposition.

“They have been coming here and holding their ceramahs. They are led by former Umno leaders who are driven by their craving for power and greed,” said Hishammuddin in reference to Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (PPBM) chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.

“We should not be swayed. Even when we are cornered, our only option will be to continue our struggle till the end.”

Also present at the meeting were Masjid Tanah division chief Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh, Bukit Katil Umno chief Tan Sri Mohd Ali Rustam and Puteri Umno chief Datuk Mas Ermiyati Samsudin.
