BJP’s protest in Kolkata turns into a mayhem

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) activists demonstrated a protest at Kolkata Police Headquaters to demand the arrest of “corrupt” TMC leaders. In a march which soon turned violent, police personnel used water cannons, tear-gas and batons to disperse the protestors from breaking the barricade. BJP general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya, state chief Dilip Ghosh and party Rajya Sabha MP Roopa Ganguly were among those detained by the law enforcement officials. (Samir Jana/HT PHOTO)

Media covering the agitation were given yellow jackets to wear by the police. A huge police contingent was deployed at different points across the metropolis in view of the BJP’s programme. (Samir Jana/HT PHOTO)
