Dhurandhar: New Bollywood film divides opinions in India and Pakistan - BBC News

On Saturday (day 9), Dhurandhar amassed Rs 53 crore at the domestic box office, its highest single-day earnings yet. It’s a 61% jump from its Friday (day 8) earnings of Rs 32.50 crore. That was also an increase from its Thursday (day 7) collection of Rs 27 crore, which was the same as its earnings on Wednesday (day 6) and Tuesday (day 5).

The Rs 27 crore figure was an improvement on Dhurandhar’s first Monday (day 4) earnings of Rs 23.35 crore, its lowest single-day collection yet. It was quite a decline from its first Sunday (day 3) earnings of Rs 43 crore, an increase from its first Saturday (day 2) collection of Rs 32 crore, which was a further rise from its opening day earnings of Rs 28 crore on Friday, December 5, as per Sacnilk.

Now, the box office collection of Dhurandhar, after 10 days at the box office in India, stands at over Rs 300 crore. Within a day of more than Rs 20-crore jump in its collections, the film has now surpassed two major milestones. Firstly, it’s edged past the lifetime domestic earnings of Rohit Shetty’s 2018 cop drama Simmba (Rs 240.30 crore) to become Ranveer Singh’s highest grosser in almost seven years, and also his second highest grosser in his 20-year career yet.

Dhurandhar has also surpassed Aditya Dhar’s last directorial, Uri: The Surgical Strike. The Vicky Kaushal-starrer 2019 blockbuster military drama earned Rs 244.14 crore at the domestic box office during its lifetime. Ranveer and Aditya’s new film is way ahead of both those films now, and is all set to enter the Rs 300 crore club today on its second Sunday and day 10 at the box office.

While that would make Dhurandhar Ranveer’s second only film to achieve this milestone, it still has a long way to go before it can dethrone the actor’s highest grosser yet — Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s 2018 period drama Padmaavat, which earned Rs 400 crore at the domestic box office. Given its current trajectory, the film is slowly and surely inching towards that benchmark as well.

Dhurandhar is currently facing competition from Kapil Sharma-starrer romantic comedy Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon 2, which has earned only Rs 4.35 crore over its first two days at the domestic box office, only a fraction of the Rs 85.50 crore Ranveer’s film has amassed within the same time frame, that too in its second weekend. Co-produced by Aditya Dhar and Jio Studios, Dhurandhar boats of an ensemble cast, including Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal, R Madhavan, Sanjay Dutt, Rakesh Bedi, and Sara Arjun.
