There is still no power at London Heathrow Terminal 2 or Terminal 4, according to the London Fire Brigade.
“The restoration of power is our priority,” London Fire Brigade spokesperson Deputy Commissioner Jonathan Smith said in a news conference Friday morning.
The airport has four operational terminals in total. Heathrow is one of the world’s busiest two-runway airports, with millions of passengers traveling through its terminals annually and about 1,300 combined take-offs and landings a day, according to its website.
Stranded London passengers describe battle to complete journeys
Travelers at London’s Paddington Station are scrambling for alternatives amid Heathrow’s flight cancellations, with some saying they have been left in the dark by their airline.
“I’ve called Delta, and all the lines are busy, so they’re not answering,” 75-year-old John Moriarty, who was due to fly home to Boston, told Reuters.
He added: “I just called American Express travel to see if they can help. I’m waiting. All the lines are busy, so I might be here another day actually. Not the worst thing in the world. It is my favorite city but I need to be home.”
Mahmoud Ali, a Domino’s pizza worker who lives in London, had been heading to Pakistan to see his wife and children.
“My wife and kids are there (in Pakistan). Now they are waiting for me. But the flight is (cancelled). I don’t understand what time the flight (will) go,” he said.
Tyler Prieb, 36, whose flight to Nashville was canceled, said: “It will just take me an extra day to get back to my wife and my daughter, and they are probably wishing I would be home already. But I think I’ll take the day, maybe I’ll do something, something, go explore somewhere I don’t know. I’m going to try to make the best of it.”
