More than $10 bn is Kyrgyzstan’s public debt

Kyrgyzstan’s public debt stood at $10,156.71 billion, or 888,204.25 billion soms, as of July 31, 2026. The figures are included in the draft national budget for 2027.
External public debt accounted for 51.1 percent of the total, amounting to $5,193.77 billion (454,194.86 billion soms). Domestic debt made up 48.9 percent, or $4,962.94 billion (434,009.39 billion soms).
The external public debt comprises more than 300 loans. About 98.4 percent were obtained on concessional terms, with interest rates ranging from 0.1 to 2 percent and repayment periods of up to 50 years.
Most external loans carry fixed interest rates. Exceptions include loans secured from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) and Denmark.
More than 70 percent of the external public debt portfolio is owed to the largest creditors — China, the International Development Association (IDA), the Asian Development Bank (ADB), the Eurasian Fund for Stabilization and Development (EFSD) and the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB).
The money owed to the International Monetary Fund accounts for 2.5 percent of external public debt, while to Japan — for 2.4 percent. Another 13.5 percent consists of liabilities under Eurobonds issued by Kyrgyzstan in 2025.
Government securities account for the bulk of domestic public debt. State Treasury Bonds make up 99.4 percent of the portfolio, with maturities ranging from two to 20 years.
The remainder of domestic debt is mainly represented by State Treasury Bills with a maturity of 12 months.
