National Bank of Kazakhstan strongly denies reports that its head ‘Daniyar Akishev was detained’
After the reports posted on social media on January 27 saying that the Chairman of the National Bank of Kazakhstan Daniyar Akishev was detained, the Bank was reached out by Sputnik Kazakhstan for a comment.
“Our chief is in office. We strongly deny this report, the National Bank will go to police to bring those who spread false information to justice,” said representative of the external communications department of the Bank Aleksandr Terentyev.
On January 17, grandson of Kazakh President Aisultan Nazarbayev on his Facebook post criticized a number of high-ranking officials of Kazakhstan. He said: “It’s very interesting for me personally whether Chairman of National Bank Akishev and head of President’s Administration Jaksybekov will be able to retain their seats, as their direct subordinates are suspected of committing state crimes. I know very well the mentioned officials and I am certain that no one can commit crimes behind their backs…”
