Attack on Titan Releases Shochu Liquor in Collaboration with Oimatsu Brewing - Interest - Anime News Network

HITA, Oita Prefecture—A limited-edition ume liquor bottle set featuring an original illustration from the globally acclaimed manga “Attack on Titan” hit the shelves here on Nov. 1.

The pair of 500-milliliter bottles come in a dedicated presentation box with a Titan painting and sell for tax-inclusive 5,500 yen ($35).

Hailing from Hita, Hajime Isayama is a son of an ume farmer.

Japanese apricots harvested by his family were used for the special-edition ume. Oyama Yumekobo, a local fruit liquor maker and retailer, has been pitching the product in limited quantities.

Isayama created the design for the labeling exclusively for the liquor set. It depicts the manga’s grown protagonists gathering and relaxing together under a tree after their war against the gigantic Titans.

“I painted this illustration while thinking of what would bring the greatest joy to those who have read ‘Attack on Titan’ to the very end,” Isayama said in a statement.

“Attack on Titan” follows the story of humans being pushed to the brink of extinction by the Titans and fighting to protect their remaining territory within enormous fortress walls.

Worldwide sales of the manga had topped 140 million copies as of November 2023.

The ume liquor set is sold at the Mizube no Sato Oyama roadside rest area and the Umeshu Gura Oyama brewery, both within Hita.

Customers who buy a liquor box at either store can receive a specialized transparent plastic file.

The purchasers of the first 4,000 sets will be rewarded with a collaborative postcard, as well.
