Clean sweep for BJP in Maharashtra civic polls: As counting nears its end, trends show a stellar performance by the BJP in several cities, including Pune, Pimpri Chinchwad, Nashik, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Nagpur, while it is all set to end the Thackeray stranglehold on the Brhanmumbai Municipal Corporation in alliance with the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena.

First civic body polls since 2017: These are the first civic body elections in Maharashtra since 2017, and the results are set to be declared today. Voting for all the municipal corporation elections began early at 7:30 am on Thursday amid tight security, and ended at 5:30 pm. Counting of votes started at 10 am on Friday, with the trends showing a clear sweep for BJP-Sena alliance on over 1600 seats.

The Bharatiya Janata Party on Friday won the municipal corporations of Navi Mumbai and Jalgaon while the Congress emerged as the single largest party in Bhiwandi and Kolhapur as the results of 11 of the 29 civic bodies were declared.

Elections to these municipal corporations were held on Thursday.
As per the State Election Commission data, the BJP won 65 of the 111 seats in Navi Mumbai. The Shiv Sena won 43, Shiv Sena (UBT) won two seats, while an independent candidate won in one ward.
In Jalgaon, the BJP won 46 of the 75 seats, Shiv Sena 22, NCP one, Shiv Sena (UBT) five, independent one. (PTI)

Former mayors Kishori Pednekar, Shraddha Jadhav, Vishakha Raut and Milind Vaidya emerged victorious in the Mumbai civic polls on Friday along with three former deputy mayors.
These wins come amid a bruising poll campaign centred around who the next mayor of the metropolis would be, with the Shiv Sena (UBT), BJP, Shiv Sena and Maharashtra Navnirman Sena all playing the Hindu-Marathi identity card.
Pednekar won from Ward 192, Jadhav from Ward 202, Raut from Ward 191 and Vaidya from Ward 182. All four belong to the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) (PTI)
AIMIM national spokesperson Waris Pathan says, “By God’s grace, you will find that the people have blessed AIMIM with a high number of votes across Maharashtra. We have won in places and are leading in places…This shows that the public have accepted Owaisi sahab’s efforts and showered their love on AIMIM…”
