Long-term observers from CIS start their mission in Uzbekistan
Long-term observers of the Mission from the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) have arrived in Uzbekistan.
At the invitation of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan the CIS Observer Mission will take part in monitoring the preparation and conduct of elections of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The CEC held a meeting with the members of the CIS Observer Mission, headed by the chief of department of the CIS Executive Committee E.Sloboda. Chairman of the Central Election Commission of Uzbekistan Mirza-Ulugbek Abdusalomov informed the guests about the progress of the election campaign in Uzbekistan. The meeting participants highlighted that the whole electoral campaign is taking place in conditions of openness and transparency, in full compliance with the Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan, laws on elections and program of basic measures on preparation and conduct of elections of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, adopted by the CEC.
Long-term observers from the CIS mission were also familiarized with the course of pre-election campaign of candidates for the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan. It was stressed that equal and ample opportunities to use mass media during the election campaign are provided to all the candidates.
During the event, it was emphasized that in order to coordinate the activities of the CIS observers in Tashkent Mission headquarters, which will take hold necessary activities related to the organization of observation, will be operating. The objectives of the Mission Headquarters is the collection and analysis of materials about the electoral process, legal examination of the electoral legislation and the monitoring of information programs and broadcasts on TV and radio channels, as well as print media, holding meetings in the election headquarters of candidates.
As it was previously reported, the Central Election Commission has accredited 90 observers from the OSCE ODIHR, the Commonwealth of Independent States, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Association of World Election Bodies and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
