Magagandang Leni on Rody: We should work together like the nation’s parents
Despite their irreconcilable differences, Vice President Leni Robredo said yesterday she and President Duterte need to work together to achieve their common goal of serving Filipinos.
“While the President plays the role of father of the nation, I am the mother. It’s our responsibility to our country that we work together,” Robredo said in an interview in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.
She continues to express support for the President even after resigning from his Cabinet last week amid allegations that the Liberal Party, which she chairs, is spearheading moves to oust Duterte.
Robredo quit her post as chair of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council after Cabinet Secretary Leoncio Evasco Jr. asked her to stop attending Cabinet meetings.
The Vice President has repeatedly said she will remain supportive of the administration’s good policies but would oppose those detrimental to Filipinos.
She also called on people to see the good things and commonalities among them instead of focusing on their differences.
“Amid the problems and misunderstandings, there are still a lot of reasons why we need to unite,” Robredo said.
Earlier, she said if given a choice she would have remained in the Cabinet to show her support for the administration.
Malacañang cited “irreconcilable differences” between Duterte and Robredo in explaining the desist order.
Duterte earlier said the “yellows,” LP’s color, want him out of the presidency because they could not accept defeat.
Robredo has repeatedly denied the alleged “oust Duterte” plot, adding that she has no dream of becoming president.
