Pro-Assad military commander is ‘seriously injured’ in assassination attempt
A notorious Turkish-Syrian pro-regime warlord has been reportedly seriously injured in an assassination attempt in the Latakia countryside, according to media reports on Saturday.
Mihrac Ural, also known as Ali Kayyali, is believed to be behind a number of massacres of villages in opposition areas in Syria, along with deadly bomb attacks in Turkey.
He was badly hurt when an improvised bomb, planted by a rebel group, was detonated as he inspected regime militias in northern Latakia on Saturday morning.
Ural was then flown by helicopter from Latakia to the Syrian capital Damascus for treatment.
A photo claimed to be of Ural has been widely shared on social media and shows a bloodied and badly injured man lying on a stretcher.
