Rafael Correa opens mass assembly in Havana´s Revolution Square
HAVANA, Cuba, Nov 30 (ACN) Ecuadorean President Rafael Correa was the first leader to deliver a speech at the Havana´s Revolution Square, where hundreds of thousands of Cubans gathered to pay tribute to Commander in Chief Fidel Castro.
Correa, visibly moved, recalled that Fidel had died 60 years since the day he departed from Mexico the Granma yacht along 82 men to fight for the freedom of Cuba.
The Ecuadorean leader said Fidel died paying homage to his name, that means faithful, the same faith Cuban people and all of Latin America placed on him, a faith he never betrayed
Correa added that the Cuban leader´s actions make him immortal, especially the achievements Cuba had in many fields, despite the criminal US economic, financial and commercial blockade of Cuba.
He added that measuring the success or failure of the Cuban economic model, leaving aside the over fifty-year-long blockade is pure hypocrisy. The United States ¨have not invaded Cuba because they know they cannot defeat an entire people¨
¨Here, in this marvelous island, walls have been built, but not like those empress build, but of dignity, respect and solidarity, ¨ he said
Correa said that with Fidel, Chavez, Cuban commander Camilo Cienfuegos and Che, the peoples in the continent had learnt to believe in the new Latin American man, capable of fighting forever to build a world of justice and peace
