KUALA LUMPUR: Thaipusam is a celebration that reflects Malaysia’s cultural and religious diversity and the mutual respect that forms the foundation of the nation’s strength, said Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri R. Ramanan ahead of the festival tomorrow.

“This is the spirit of Malaysia Madani—a country that upholds humanity, harmony, well-being, and unity to build a brighter future for all. This is the greatness of my country, Malaysia,” he said in a Facebook post.

He also called on the Hindu community to see the festival not just as a celebration, but as a spiritual journey imbued with faith, perseverance, and sacrifice in facing life’s challenges.

“For devotees fulfilling their vows and undertaking the sacred journey to Batu Caves and other temples, may every step you take be filled with blessings, safety, and well-being.

“May every prayer bring peace of mind, renewed hope, and the strength to continue life with enthusiasm and confidence. Always make safety a priority,” he added.

He also extended his appreciation to all security personnel and volunteers, especially those from the Human Resources Ministry and the police, who worked tirelessly to ensure the smoothness and safety of the celebrations.

“Let us all embrace the spirit of Thaipusam together with family, friends, and Hindu acquaintances,” he said.

The chariot procession from Sri Maha Mariamman Dhevasthanam Temple on Jalan Tun H.S. Lee to Batu Caves at 9pm yesterday marked the start of the Thaipusam celebrations.
