Works at Kyrgyzstan uranium deposit in Issyk-Kul region suspended
Exploration of the Kok-Moinok uranium deposit was completely stopped, the Issyk-kul region government said April 25.
The governor of Issyk-Kul region Akylbek Osmonaliyev, head of Ton district Daniyar Arpachiyev, head of Department of Internal Affairs of Issyk-Kul region Ulan Asanbayev, deputy mayor of Balykchy and head of Kok-Moinok village council checked the execution of the Prime Minister’s order to suspend any works related to uranium until the results of special commission are obtained.
To date, all heavy-duty vehicles were removed from the site and the buildings were closed down by the UrAsia mining company. The police maintains public order.
The public hearings on the development of the Tash-Bulak uranium deposit were held in the Kok-Moinok village in Ton district in the autumn of 2018. The most of the villagers were against the deposit development saying that it will influence on the environment and people’s health.
