1,300 journalists accredited in Uzbekistan for presidential election
1,306 local and foreign media in total have been accredited in Uzbekistan for the presidential election, reported the press service of the Uzbek Foreign Ministry.
The press services of the territorial election commissions and the national press services will be operating for the transparency of the election process and access of the journalists to the official information concerning the elections.
Until today, about 100 press conferences, meetings dedicated to the main phase of the election campaign have been held in the country, said the Ministry.
A single computer network was also created to monitor the voting process online.
The presidential election in Uzbekistan will be held on December 4. The early presidential voting began in the country on November 24 and will last until December 3.
The list of candidates includes Shavkat Mirziyoyev (the Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan), Sarvar Otamuradov (the Milly Tiklanish party), Khotamjon Ketmonov (People’s Democratic Party) and Nariman Umarov (Adolat party).
The head of state is elected for 5 years in Uzbekistan.
The first president of Uzbekistan, Islam Karimov, died of a stroke at the age of 78. Prime Minister Shavkat Mirziyoyev was appointed as interim president.
