14 Filipinos on 2017 world billionaires list

MANILA, Philippines — Fourteen Filipinos returned to the recently released Forbes magazine’s annual billionaires list.

SM Investment Corporation’s Henry Sy remains the highest-ranking Filipino in the Forbes’ dollar billionaires club with a net worth of $12.7 billion, a drop from his $13.3-billion net worth last year.

Sy’s world rank also dropped from 71 last year to 94 this year.

JG Summit Holding’s John Gokongwei Jr. follows Sy ranking 250 in the world with a net worth of P5.8 billion. Philippine Airline’s Lucio Tan ranked 501 in the world with a wealth of $3.7 billion.

Also in the top 10 Filipino dollar billionaires are George Ty ($3.5 billion), Enrique Razon Jr. ($3.4 billion), Tony Tan Caktiong ($3.4 billion), David Consunji ($3.1 billion), Andrew Tan ($2.5 billion), Robert Coyiuto Jr. ($1.5 billion) and former Sen. Manny Villar ($1.5 billion).

 

Completing the list of Filipinos in the dollar billionaires club are Ramon Ang ($1.4 billion), Eduardo Cojuangco ($1.2 billion), Roberto Ongpin ($1.1 billion) and Edgar Sia ($1 billion).

Microsoft founder Bill Gates remains the richest person in the world for the fourth year in a row. He has a wealth of $86 billion, up from $75 billion last year.
