Ali Hamsa praises helpful RTM cameraman who was shot in Penang

PUTRAJAYA: Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa today praised RTM cameraman Mohamad Amirul Amin Amir for his noble intention to help people in need.

Mohamad Amirul, 28, was shot and injured when he stopped along the Tun Dr Lim Chong Eu Expressway last night to help people whom he thought were involved in a road accident but it turned out to be a shooting incident.

He and a friend were on their way to the Pesta Pulau Pinang site when the incident took place at 7.15pm. A shooting took place, resulting in three men killed and four other people injured.

Ali said the desire to help was an exemplary intention of a concerned civil servant.

“I personally convey my appreciation to him for having stopped to help although he did not realise that he would be shot. I also pray for his early recovery,” he said to reporters after delivering the message of the Chief Secretary to the Government to JUSA officers here.

Asked whether any reward would be given to Mohamad Amirul, Ali said the matter would be discussed with the relevant ministry.

“That will be looked into because the incident happened while he was on duty,” he said.

Mohamad Amirul is recuperating in the Penang Hospital following surgery and is reported to be in stable condition.

In GEORGE TOWN, Mohamad Amirul’s mother Bunisa Mohd Ali, 58, said her son kept asking how many people were killed or injured but she advised him not to think of the incident.

“The important thing is that he is safe,” she said to reporters outside the Intensive Care Unit of the Penang Hospital.

She said Mohamad Amirul also asked about his friends and she told him that they had come to see him.

Bunisa said news of her son having been shot was conveyed to her by her daughter Siti Munirah, 34.

“Let’s pray for his recovery,” she said almost in tears. — BERNAMA
