Low-level effort to avoid escalation: China, the Philippines hold consultations on maritime-related issues

A bilateral maritime meeting between China and the Philippines was held in Cebu, the Philippines on Thursday, led by China’s Hou Yanqi, director-general of the Department of Boundary and Ocean Affairs of China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Philippine Undersecretary of Foreign Affairs Leo M. Herrera-Lim and Assistant Secretary of the Philippines Department of Foreign Affairs Office of Asian and Pacific Affairs Marshall Louis M. Alferez.

The two sides held a frank and in-depth exchange of views on maritime-related issues and other matters of mutual concern, and agreed to maintain communication through diplomatic channels.
