Malaysia awaits Myanmar talks outcome before next repatriation phase

PUTRAJAYA: Malaysia is awaiting the outcome of discussions with the Myanmar government before proceeding with the next phase of its repatriation exercise.

Immigration director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban said the department was waiting for feedback from the Foreign Ministry, which is handling negotiations with Myanmar officials over the exercise.

FMTNews Malaysia and Myanmar have agreed to repatriate another 3,524 Myanmar  nationals in the second phase of the country's repatriation programme. A  total of 1,476 Myanmar nationals were sent home yesterday aboard

“We are still waiting for feedback from the Foreign Ministry for negotiations with the Myanmar government.

“Once we receive a date, our involvement will be on the operational side. We will make the necessary arrangements and identify those who will be sent back,” he told reporters today.
