ASHGABAT: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was accorded an official welcome ceremony at the Presidential Palace here today, marking his first official visit to the Central Asian nation since taking office.
Upon arrival, Anwar was received by Turkmenistan President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and inspected a guard of honour as the national anthems of Malaysia and Turkmenistan were played.
The prime minister was then introduced to Turkmenistan cabinet ministers and senior government officials before introducing the Malaysian delegation to Berdimuhamedov.
Both leaders later held a four-eyed meeting before proceeding to a bilateral meeting to discuss matters of mutual interest and ways to enhance cooperation between the two countries.
The two-day visit, which began yesterday, is Anwar’s first official trip to Turkmenistan since becoming Malaysia’s 10th prime minister in November 2022.
