The New Routes
The Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan has hosted a round-table discussion on the prospects of international cargo transportation.
The participants exchanged views on the opportunities of the international intermodal logistics center in Navoi and the logistics center in Angren, discussed the promising ways of development of transport and logistics services for small businesses, and other issues.
As noted at the event, Uzbekistan has been attaching importance to the construction of roads and communications in the first years of independence. The construction of a unified railway transportation system, transfer of telecommunications to the fiber-optic system, creation of transport corridors toward international markets were set as key priorities. The old roads have been gradually reconstructed and new roads are being built, suggesting the increasing socio-economic potential of Uzbekistan.
According to experts, the ongoing successive reforms on modernization of transport and communication networks and increase of the transit capacity have been contributing to integration of Uzbekistan into the international transport communications network. Today, the Central Asian region is a dynamically developing link of the world transport and communication chain. Much has been done in the region in recent years to upgrade the transport complex, and open new international routes.
