President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team said in a statement Friday afternoon that the same people who claim Russia interfered in the presidential election had previously claimed Iraq had weapons of mass destruction.

“These are the same people that said Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction. The election ended a long time ago in one of the biggest Electoral College victories in history. It’s now time to move on and ‘Make America Great Again,’” Trump’s transition team said in an unsigned statement.

The White House Friday announced it would be launching a review of alleged Russian hacking and promotion of disinformation to sway the election. Congressional Democrats and some Republicans have been calling for an investigation of Russian interference in the presidential race and The Washington Post reported Friday night that a CIA investigation concluded that Russia had worked clandestinely to get Trump elected.

In the lead up to the 2003 invasion of Iraq, intelligence agencies, including the CIA, claimed that Iraq had a stockpile of weapons of mass destruction. President George W. Bush would later write in his book “Decision Points”: “While the world was undoubtedly safer with Saddam gone, the reality was that I had sent American troops into combat based in large part on intelligence that proved false.”
