KUALA LUMPUR: Support among Malay voters for Barisan Nasional almost doubled to 82.4 per cent in the Johor election, compared with just 44.9 per cent in 2022.

Umno secretary-general Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki said a similar pattern was recorded in Negri Sembilan, where Malay voter support for BN rose from 45.8 per cent in 2022 to 79 per cent in the state election last month.

He said the increase in support was also accompanied by a surge among Indian and Chinese voters, showing that public confidence in Umno and BN was growing.

“This is not merely a set of figures or ordinary statistics, but a reflection of public confidence that has recovered and is once again flowing towards Umno-BN’s cause.

“The near-unanimous increase in Malay support for Umno was certainly contributed by victories in key polling streams, including military votes. We won all 14 polling streams at military camps, with 82.1 per cent of voters choosing us in Johor.

“Meanwhile, in Negri Sembilan, as a result of our cooperation with Pas and our Perikatan Nasional partners, military votes for us reached 92.47 per cent,” he said when presenting his report at the 2026 Umno General Assembly here today.

Asyraf said Indian voter support for BN in Johor also surged from 18.9 per cent in 2022 to 54.8 per cent in the July 11 state election.

In Negri Sembilan, he said Indian voter support for BN also increased from 49.6 per cent in the previous state election.

“BN secured the highest Indian vote compared with other parties. My congratulations and commendation go to MIC president Tan Sri Dr Vigneswaran, the MIC top leadership, PPP (People’s Progressive Party), IPF (Indian Progressive Front), Parti Makkal Sakti Malaysia, Kimma (Malaysian Indian Muslim Congress), Parti Punjabi Malaysia and Friends of BN,” he said.

As for Chinese voters, he said support for BN in Johor increased from 9.5 per cent in 2022 to 20 per cent, while in Negri Sembilan it rose from 8.7 per cent to 14 per cent.

He added that BN also won all Malay youth polling streams in both states.
