BNM’s International Reserves At US$97.3 Bln As At May 15

KUALA LUMPUR, May 22 (Bernama) — The international reserves of Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) amounted to US$97.3 billion (equivalent to RM430.5 billion) as at May 15, 2017 compared to US$96.1 billion (equivalent to RM425.2 billion) registered as at April 28, 2017.

In a statement today, BNM said the reserves position was sufficient to finance 7.8 months of retained imports and was 1.1 times the short-term external debt.

The main components of the international reserves were foreign currency reserves (US$90.7 billion), International Monetary Fund Reserves position (US$0.8 billion), Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) (US$1.1 billion), gold (US$1.6 billion) and other reserve assets (US$3.1 billion).
