KUALA LUMPUR: Muhammad Haziq Abdullah Abdul Aziz, who was arrested at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) yesterday, was taken to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital (HKL) this morning to undergo a medical check-up.

It is understood that Haziq arrived at the hospital at 8.30am, accompanied by a team of lawyers.

It is believed that Haziq is undergoing an examination as required by police’s investigation into the Santubong PKR Youth chief’s claim that he is one of two men appearing in a viral gay sex video which also allegedly features a Cabinet minister.

Whether the 27-year-old – who is also the senior private secretary of the Deputy Primary Industries and Commodities Minister – will be remanded or released on bail following his hospital visit today has not been determined.

“Everything depends on the investigation. He will be released on bail if we can complete the investigation (quickly).

“Otherwise, the investigation team will apply for a remand order with the Magistrate’s Court,” Federal Criminal Investigation Department chief Datuk Huzir Mohamed said when contacted today.

Meanwhile, Haziq’s lawyer, Ramesh Sivakumar, told reporters this morning that he was informed by the case’s investigation officer that his client will likely be released on bail.

Haziq was arrested as he was attempting to board a flight to Manila, the Philippines at KLIA at about 6pm on Friday.

Police said details of his destination were confirmed based on a flight ticket in his possession.

Haziq is being investigated under Section 292 of the Penal Code for the sale or otherwise of obscene material; and Section 504 of the same Act for intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of the peace.

“He is also being investigated under Section 377B for committing carnal intercourse against the order of nature; and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for the improper use of network facilities,” Huzir said in a statement on Friday night.

On Wednesday, Haziq posted a video on Facebook, claiming to be one of two men in a sex video which went viral a day earlier.

Haziq also alleged that Economic Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali is the other person in the clip.

Azmin has denied the allegation, saying that it is nothing but part of a nefarious plot to assassinate his reputation and character in an attempt to destroy his political career.
