News Musa Aman raises issue of non-Sabahan assuming VC role at UMS to Higher Education Ministry
KOTA KINABALU: The issue of a non-local taking over the position of Universiti Malaysia Sabah’s vice-chancellor has been brought to the state cabinet for further discussion.
Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman said the issue, which was a big concern among many, including those within Barisan Nasional, has been relayed to the Higher Education Minister.
He was commenting on claims that a non-Sabahan would replace vice-chancellor Prof Dr Mohd Harun Abdullah after he retires.
“All have agreed that the issue warrants the attention of the Higher Education Ministry.
“I have already raised this issue with the minister in charge and voiced expectations that the next vice-chancellor should be from Sabah,” he said in a statement, adding Sabah was not short of experienced and qualified individuals who can excel in the role.
Musa also urged the people to calm down as no decision has yet been made on the appointment.
