Russian FM Lavrov visits Kyrgyzstan to prepare for Putin’s official trip

AKIPRESS.COM – President of Kyrgyzstan Sooronbai Jeenbekov met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Bishkek on February 4.

Jeenbekov said Lavrov’s visit to Kyrgyzstan comes on the eve of significant political event  — the official visit of Russian President Vladimir Putin to Kyrgyzstan.

“I am certain that visit of Putin will demonstrate high level of allied and partnership relations based on traditional friendship and mutual trust,” Jeenbekov said.

Kyrgyzstan’s accession to the Eurasian Economic Union brought relations between the countries to a new more qualitative level.

Lavrov, for his part, noted that his visit to Bishkek is a preparation for the official visit of Putin to Kyrgyzstan and meeting of the inter-governmental commission set for 1 March 2019.

“We value our allied and strategic partnership, bilateral ties and cooperation within the CSTO, EAEU, SCO, OSCE, the UN and other organizations that group us together,” Lavrov said.  He added that the two FMs are set to discuss all the foreign policy tasks during today’s meeting.

Jeenbekov and Lavrov also exchanged views on upcoming SCO summit and CSTO Collective Security Council meeting, which will be held under the chairmanship of the Kyrgyz Republic in 2019.
