Transport Ministry estimates cost of China—Kyrgyzstan railroad construction at $5bn
The Transport and Roads Ministry has estimated the cost of the China—Kyrgyzstan railroad construction at $5 billion, said Minister Jamshitbek Kalilov during the Ata-Meken faction meeting on Friday, Tazabek reported.
Construction of 1 km of railroad will cost approximately $10 million, he said.
The Ministry suggests to build the railroad from Torugart, a mountain pass in the Tian Shan mountain range near the border between the Naryn region and the Xinjiang Autonomous Region of China, to Jalal-Abad with the length of 433 km. The construction duration is 8 years, he said.
The railroad will run through 23 mineral deposits with the aim of their development in the future.
“Construction of 28 tunnels with total length of 68.72 km is being considered. The longest tunnel will be 14.4 km in Kazarman [Jalal-Abad region],” he said.
