MetMalaysia issues Level 1 hot weather alert for 16 areas

KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) today issued a Level 1 hot weather status, or alert category for 13 areas involving Perlis, Kedah, Perak, Pahang and Kelantan, as well as three areas in Sabah and Sarawak.

MetMalaysia said in a statement that the affected areas are the entire state of Perlis, while in Kedah, the areas are Kubang Pasu, Pokok Sena, Pendang, Padang Terap and Sik.

The other affected areas are Kuala Kangsar and Hulu Perak in Perak; Temerloh and Jerantut in Pahang; and Machang, Pasir Mas and Jeli in Kelantan.

A similar warning has been issued for Limbang and Marudi in Sarawak, as well as in Beaufort in Sabah.

According to MetMalaysia, a Level 1 or alert status is issued when the daily maximum temperature in an area reaches 35 to 37 degrees Celsius for at least three consecutive days.
