Malaysia Showbiz: Shila Amzah says China move is for family, career longevity

PUCHONG: Homegrown vocal powerhouse Shila Amzah has confirmed she will be relocating her family to China by the end of next year, driven by her rapidly expanding career commitments in the country.
The 36-year-old songstress revealed that she has just been offered a major new contract.
Her legal team is currently reviewing the terms before the agreement is finalised.
According to the Patah Seribu hitmaker, the decision to move was largely motivated by a desire to spend more quality time with her children, rather than constantly commuting between Malaysia and China.
“Lately, I’ve been travelling back and forth to China quite frequently. After spending three or four days there, I return to Malaysia and might only get to spend two or three days with my children.

“During my absence, my mother and stepfather step in to help look after them. Even though I have a maid, I still need people I truly trust around them.
“Furthermore, I am about to sign another contract, though I cannot share the details just yet. What I can say is that it is a fairly long-term contract,” she said during a press conference for her upcoming Konsert Shila Amzah KITA: 25 Tahun Bersama here, yesterday.
At the same time, Shila firmly dismissed speculations that her relocation was prompted by feeling more appreciated in China than in her own homeland.
Instead, she emphasised that her career moves are entirely dictated by opportunity and timing.
“It’s not because fans there appreciate me more. If that were the case, I wouldn’t still be producing Malay albums here. It means Malaysian fans are just as important to me.
“In truth, I previously lived in China starting from 2012 during my first marriage and stayed there for almost eight years. After that, I returned to Malaysia, then the Covid-19 pandemic hit, and there were simply no opportunities there at the time.

“So, it is not a question of being appreciated or not. Wherever the opportunities are, that is where I will go.

“I will try to strike a balance between my careers in China and Malaysia. If I could split myself in two, I would have done it long ago for the fans,” she said.
