100 days of Vijay govt: Tamil Nadu CM takes centre stage at India Today Roundtable
Vijay will attend the India Today Tamil Nadu Roundtable as chief guest on August 17 as he marks his first 100 days in office as Chief Minister.

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph C Vijay is set to inaugurate India Today Roundtable Tamil Nadu in Chennai on Monday, with the event set to focus on his government’s first 100 days in office and the political, economic and governance challenges facing the state.
Vijay, whose government just completed 100 days in power, will be the chief guest at the Roundtable and will kick-start the think fest and is also set to launch the India Today Tamil YouTube channel during the event.
The Roundtable will bring together prominent political figures from Tamil Nadu, including K Annamalai, who recently made waves when he quit the BJP and floated an independent grassroots movement.
Vijay and his Tamizhaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) pulled off one of the most stunning political upsets in Tamil Nadu’s recent history, with the debutant party emerging as the single largest force with 108 seats and ending decades of uninterrupted dominance by the Dravidian parties. Though TVK fell short of the 118-seat majority in the 234-member Assembly, support from the Congress, VCK, CPI, CPI(M) and IUML enabled Vijay to stake claim to power.
Vijay, who successfully translated his stardom and immense mass appeal into electoral politics, was sworn in as Chief Minister on May 10, becoming Tamil Nadu’s first non-Dravidian Chief Minister in nearly six decades.
As the TVK-led government completes 100 days, with major announcements spanning welfare, agriculture, women’s safety, law and order, liquor policy and investment, the focus is now shifting from promises to implementation.

During its initial 100 days, the government has announced free power and crop loan relief, launched the Singappen Women’s Safety Force, intensified its anti-drug campaign and introduced significant changes in the management of Tasmac. It has also announced investment proposals and MoUs worth more than Rs 1 lakh crore. The key challenge now is to translate these commitments into actual projects, investments and jobs.
Vijay’s government will also have to navigate the fiscal burden of its welfare measures, Tamil Nadu’s debt and revenue pressures, and the need to deliver tangible results on its anti-corruption and anti-drug drives. Improving law and order and women’s safety, while balancing liquor policy reforms with the state’s dependence on excise revenue, will remain critical challenges.

For farmers, the government will face pressure to deliver on its commitments relating to loan waivers, minimum support price, crop insurance and annual financial assistance.
Vijay’s initial days in office have also been marked by tensions with Karnataka over the Cauvery water-sharing dispute and the proposed Mekedatu dam project.
The event will be livestreamed on India Today television, YouTube channels and the India Today website.
